BILINGUAL EXHIBITION (ENGLISH VERSION BELOW)

Em 1960, pela sensibilidade e esforço de intelectuais que entenderam a necessidade de se fazer ciência em solo potiguar, nasceu o Instituto de Antropologia, primeiro centro de pesquisas da recém-criada Universidade do Rio Grande do Norte (1958), berço da UFRN. 

Nos anos seguintes, o instituto foi responsável por pesquisas pioneiras no estado, em diferentes áreas de conhecimento, relacionadas tanto ao mundo natural (biologia, paleontologia, genética, geologia, botânica, zoologia), quanto ao mundo cultural (antropologia, etnologia, etnografia, arqueologia, linguística). Do material resultante das pesquisas foi sendo constituído um precioso acervo, que era apresentado ao público em forma de exposições.

Em 1973, no âmbito de uma reforma universitária, as instalações e o acervo do Instituto de Antropologia tornaram-se o Museu Câmara Cascudo que conhecemos hoje. Um espaço de ensino e pesquisa para professores e alunos da UFRN, mas também um lugar de descoberta e aprendizado para a sociedade, que tem acesso ao conhecimento de maneira dinâmica, prazerosa, lúdica.

Agora, quando atinge sua “melhor idade”, o MCC se impõe como o mais importante museu do RN, tanto por seu extenso e inestimável acervo, quanto pela dimensão de suas instalações, diversidade de sua equipe de profissionais e impacto de suas ações. 

Um museu singular, mas também plural, que tira sua força da diversidade de áreas de atuação, atividades e públicos, espelhando a pluralidade característica da própria UFRN.

Nessa exposição, a primeira concebida, produzida, montada e apresentada de forma exclusivamente virtual, o MCC dá um novo passo, abraçando firmemente a tecnologia para inaugurar uma nova etapa em uma trajetória já longa e de muito futuro.

In 1960, through the sensitivity and effort of intellectuals who understood the need to do science in Potiguar soil, the Institute of Anthropology was born, the first research centre of the newly created University of Rio Grande do Norte (1958), birthplace of UFRN.

In the following years, the institute was responsible for pioneering research in the state, in different areas of knowledge, related both to the natural world (biology, paleontology, genetics, geology, botany, zoology) and the cultural world (anthropology, ethnology, ethnography, archaeology, linguistics). A precious collection was built up from the material resulting from the research, which was presented to the public in the form of exhibitions.

In 1973, as part of a university reform, the facilities and collection of the Institute of Anthropology became the Museu Câmara Cascudo we know today. A teaching and research space for UFRN teachers and students, but also a place of discovery and learning for society, which has access to knowledge in a dynamic, pleasurable and playful way.

Now, when it reaches its "best age", the Câmara Cascudo Museum imposes itself as the most important museum in RN, both for its extensive and priceless collection, and for the dimension of its facilities, the diversity of its team of professionals and the impact of its actions.

A singular museum, but also plural, which draws its strength from the diversity of areas of activity, activities and publics, mirroring the characteristic plurality of UFRN itself.

In this exhibition, the first conceived, produced, assembled and presented exclusively virtual, the MCC takes a new step, firmly embracing technology to inaugurate a new stage in an already long trajectory with a long future.
